Our first Christmas in the new house also saw us host it for the first time. Mum, Dad and Sarah (and Angel) came to stay on Christmas Eve for a BB Curry (tm), and Christmas Day started with lots of present opening, followed by a glass or two of champagne and goose for Christmas Dinner. It was a really lovely Christmas, but pretty hard work! :)

Starting from Locksbottom in Kent and finishing over 50 miles away at Hastings in East Sussex, the May Day Run has grown to be one of the largest motorbike rides in the UK. The sight of so many bikes on Hastings seafront is pretty impressive! Matt and I went along for a look, they had a beautiful day for it and the atmosphere was great.

Back to Méribel in France for a week of skiing with Matt, I even managed some red runs this time! (though not with much style, it has to be said). Fell over far more times than I can remember and got the obligatory comedy tan, but it was a great week and I can't wait to go back! Weather quite warm this time, so we spent most of the time on the higher slopes where the conditions were fantastic :)

Back to Rye for a weekend (thanks to Matt's folks for putting us up again :) ), went to Telescope House and purchased a new 10" reflector! Also got a solar filter for the small telescope so took a few photos of the sun, and the moon later on. Telescope is delivered on the 11th, so there should be some experimental photos soon...

Another weekend in Rye and some random astronomy activities. Had a trip to Telescope House in Tunbridge Wells to buy some viewing things for the solar eclipse on Monday, then a lot of practise using the scope and 350d to take photos. Also a nice relaxed weekend with Matt's parents, as always :)

A weekend in Rye with BB's parents and unexpectedly gorgeous sunshine! Today we set up the scope because the skies are so clear and Rye is a very dark spot (Matt's parents live at the top of the hill in Playden). We saw the Andromeda Galaxy, amongst other things, which was amazing.

http://www.justgiving.com/tube-dash-2005 - BB and I were the support team for Norm and Matt who did a 20-hour tube dash to raise funds for the victims of the London bombings. We dropped them off at Amersham at 5:30am and picked them up at Upminster at 1:30am, 20 hours later. We met them at Finchley central late on in their challenge for a morale boost and photos. They did 259 out of 274 stations and raised over 1300 quid! Well done guys :)

A trip out to Windsor with picnic, sat in the park by the river and drank wine and beer and watched boats. Had a fantastic curry in the evening at a curry place I forget the name of, and had to get a taxi all the way back to Woodside Park because trains on Sunday are rubbish. Had a lovely day, though!

Matt and I spent a sunny Sunday afternoon by the river in Richmond (with a view to possibly living round there again, both Matt and I have lived in that area before and loved it). We sat in the beer garden of the White Cross, chatting, planning, drinking cold beer and fighting off flying ants. It was a lovely afternoon, finished off with a meal at the local Zizzi.

Matt's sister Nic and her boyfriend Andy came for dinner, we all had *far* too much to drink but it was a great night :) Worked from home the next day because of the London bombings...

A weekend in Rye with Matt's parents. Took us three hours to get to Rye on Friday night because of an accident on the north circular... arrived at about 11pm and set about catching up on the wine drinking ;) On Saturday Matt and I bimbled into Rye, and on Sunday we all hung round in the garden in the sunshine with Gran, setting up the tent for the first time and fiddling with the telescope. I messed about with various lenses on the camera (Bob has an EOS), hence rather a lot of photos of various flowers. This is the edited version, too!

On the way back down from Scotland we stayed at Mum and Dad's Saturday to Sunday - it was a gorgeously hot weekend, we went to a barbecue at the Lodge on Saturday night, then we had one for Sunday lunch on Fathers' Day before Matt and I set off for the final leg of the journey home. Got home to a letter from the flat owners to say they're putting it on the market...

Glen Doll is a very pretty pine forest, just up from Glen Clova. We walked through that (on a path called "Jock's Road") and up the valley, not as strenuous as Loch Brandy but still tiring! About 6 miles in total, with some lovely views back down the valley when we reached the top. It was the best day of the holiday, weatherwise; we didn't get rained on once! Packed in the evening, then drank champagne in front of the fire.

Steep but worthwhile climb to Loch Brandy from Glen Clova. Mist made it beautifully atmospheric, but didn't do much for the views! At least it wasn't raining. We were going to climb up and round the top to the other Loch (Wharral) but we decided it was too misty for any views we might get (it had nothing to do with aching legs and the thought of a pint at the bottom, honest). Had dinner in the Clova Hotel - Pheasant Soup and Venison Casserole, mmm. I drove home, stressful drive: bunny count = 0 but not due to any effort on their part.

It rained (a lot) on the Wednesday, so we had a day off walking (probably best to say we could hardly move after yesterday!). Had a long lie-in and went to Kirriemuir in the afternoon (where J M Barrie was born). Nice little town, especially if you like expensive Crafte Shoppes or J M Barrie. Or Co-ops. Got drunk in the evening in front of the fire, with steaks for tea. Mmm!

We decided to walk to Glen Clova via the "Minister's Path" which apparently some poor clergyman had to walk on a Sunday to do services in both Glens. Stopped in the Clova Hotel for a pint and then walked back. It's an 18 mile round trip which we hadn't quite reckoned on, but we earned a beer! Rained on us on the way back, we had warmed Scotch Broth under a pine tree (on the primus). When we finally got back to the cottage, I soaked in the bath while Matt lit the fire. Real fires rock!

A 10 mile walk up the hills between Glen Prosen and Glen Clova. Gorgeous views, bit of rain and bit of sun so had a lovely view of a rainbow over Glen Clova. Knackering day, had curry and beer in front of the fire with the OS maps out to plot the next day's walk. No TV, no phones, was bliss! Oh, the photos this week are taken with brand new Canon EOS 350d...

First day of a week's holiday spent in a gorgeously remote cottage called "Braeshalloch" in Glen Prosen, which is just inside the Cairngorms National Park. We arrived on the Sunday feeling slightly rough after Norm's party, so after a brief explore we spent the first evening chilling in front of the fire (expertly lit by Matt). Early (ish) night, mercifully comfy bed!

Drove up to Edinburgh for Norm's 30th birthday barbecue at his house in Bathgate - lovely weather, nice food, loads of booze and lots of dancing. Had an excellent evening, excellent way to celebrate your 30th, Norm :) Excuse the enormous volume of photos, this is due to my new Canon EOS 350d which was played with a lot! The next day, after a good hangover breakfast, we headed up to a cottage in the Cairngorms for a much-needed R&R holiday...

A very very drunken barbecue with Sarah, me and Matt. Vaguely remembered 80s Hits being sung along to, and a lot of empty bottles. Crashed out about 4am, could just about manage to hobble to the Orange Tree for Sunday Lunch the next day.

Sarah came to stay for the bank holiday weekend. She arrived on a very hot Friday afternoon, so we chilled in the back garden and then went to the Dignity, where Norm and Mupps and everyone were. Went to the newly refurbished Catcher, which is OK - Joel and Matt Frost arrived later, after a "uknot" meet. It was an excellent evening, had far too much gin though! Shopping in Brent Cross on the Saturday afternoon, good girly chats aplenty. Had a really excellent weekend, and Sarah enjoyed it too :)

Norm came down from Edinburgh to visit some customers, so we met up for beers and went to the Steamship at East India Dock. Went to Chillis in Canary Wharf, where Matt and Mupps and Pixie joined us for margaritas...

We went down to see Matt's parents, and took the new telescope. Watched Eurovision on the Saturday evening and set up the telescope. We got some good views of Saturn and Jupiter, there are excellent dark skies in Rye, unlike Woodside Park! On the Sunday, we shot at a plant pot in the garden with Matt's pellet gun (I actually managed to hit it, too) and bought a finder scope for the telescope which will help a lot with alignment. Matt's gran came over for Sunday dinner.

A 6.5 mile walk from West Witton, to the remains of a Knight's Templar chapel and back along the River Ure. Started off a gorgeous day, then chucked it down, but we'd got sexy anoraks so we were fine.

"Ladies' Night" at Heald Hall Hotel (Dad's lodge and some people from a London lodge). Excellent do, much hungoverness the next day (solved with a fryup).

Meeting people from the Medical School forums, at Balls Brothers bar in Hays Galleria (near London Bridge). It was the day I'd found out St George's had given me my third and final rejection, but it was still lovely to meet everyone.
Present were: Linda, Linda's partner, Linda's friend, Andrew (Incandenza), "fruitfly", Dave (Dsparky), Annie (gonzo), Mel (poppy) and me. "Nemesis" was there earlier but I missed her.

Matt's 29th birthday was actually on the previous Tuesday, but we met up with some of his friends in London on the following Saturday afternoon. Starting off in All Bar One in Leicester Square, we met up with Shan, Matt, Si and Helen before heading off with Si and Helen for food at Satsuma (on Wardour Street). Shan and Matt went to the Hogs Head on Lisle Street to watch Wales win the rugby, and Matt and I went along after the meal to meet up with them again. Matt and I then went to meet up with Mike and Dave at a bar called Apollo near Baker Street, and finally ended up in Docklands at Norm's for wine and kebabs! We made the last tube home, and slept!

Norm's moving to Scotland for a new role and Leah is leaving the company, so a joint leaving do was organised at the Cross Keys in the City. I think the photos tell the story of the evening well enough! This was also the day of my Barts interview (I'm applying for Graduate Entry medicine this year) so I was well in need of a drink...

BB, pixie and I finally tried the Korean restaurant "Yijo" opposite Finchley Central station. Friendly staff and excellent food, we really should have tried it sooner! We had "boolkoki" among other things, which is strips of spicy beef, it was fried at our table and it was fantastic, we'll definitely be going back soon. It snowed too, and BB and I tried to learn to skate...

Matt and I spent the weekend in Rye staying with his parents in their newly refurbished house which, I have to say, is gorgeous! I couldn't have imagined when we looked round it just after they'd bought it that it would end up looking like this (it hadn't been touched since the 60s) but that just goes to show what I don't know about property :) Si and Helen were staying nearby in a cottage belonging to her parents, and they recently got engaged so we all met up to celebrate on the Friday night. On Sunday Matt and I walked to Camber Sands and back which is where the only photos I took of the weekend are from (slack!).

The weekend after my birthday, spent in Ossett (this was also for Sarah's birthday on the 13th and Mum's on the 16th). Had a really good curry at "Aakash" in Cleckheaton (a huge curry restaurant in an old chapel) on the Saturday night, and Matt and I cooked on Sarah's birthday for Mum, Dad, Sarah and Matthew. We also had a lot of wine...

I made it to 30! We spent most of the day travelling back from the skiing holiday, so Matt and I dumped our cases and went straight down to the pub, where loads of very good friends arrived to get very drunk and have traditional birthday duq. Best possible way to celebrate :)

Learning to ski! Matt and I had a week in Méribel in France sharing a chalet with Ben, Chris, Kelly and John, and I learned to ski along with Kelly. It was an amazing week, I can't believe I can actually ski now! I am definitely going to go again, this is one of the best holidays I've ever had - fantastic scenery, brilliant company and wicked fun in the snow - what more could you want? Méribel itself is quite an expensive resort (6 euros a pint!) so some evenings were spent chilling in the chalet with some beers and wine and food cooked by resident chef Matt. My god do my legs ache... a perfect way to see in my 30th birthday though :)

Norm had a party at the really rather nice house he shares with Chris and Simon, in Docklands; the usual New Year drunkenness occurred, and 2005 was seen in in the best way of all, with lots of very good friends and lots of wine!

A visit to Bristol to meet everyone I'm going to be skiing with at the end of January. Lots of beer and curry, *almost* got a ride in a police car but there wasn't room for all of us (I should point out that this was because Ben is a cop, we were just trying to get a lift home, rather than being taken downtown for a little chat). Anyway, made it home in a conventional taxi in the end (boo) and watched Matt trying to order skiboards online while being apparently unable to remember his own name, let alone type his credit card number :) He did succeed, however, and I'm very much looking forward to skiing at the end of January!

Walking in the Yorkshire Dales to Malham Cove and back to Malham (just over 4 miles). The decision to buy waterproof trousers was made subsequently, Mum and I really thought we'd never be warm again... Matt was trying out his new GPS handheld (a Garmin eTrex Vista, from me for Christmas) so we only went the wrong way once ;-) Beautiful views even if it was a little bit misty, I really do like the Dales landscape though. Must go more often when we're up north...

Christmas Day! Sarah and Matthew arrived first thing (ish) because she'd stayed over at his, and we opened presents with glasses of Bucks Fizz on the side. Grandma, Grandad and Uncle Stewart arrived for Christmas Dinner (turkey + trimmings, of course) and later June, Richard and Becky turned up for drinks - we even managed nibbles after that enormous turkey :) Dad has a plaster on his head because he banged it the other week while fitting the new kitchen and had to have stitches. Oh, and port gives you a monumental hangover.

MSTS (formerly the IMC)'s Christmas party at Bodean's Barbecue in Soho. Lots of meat and beermat throwing, and even a broken ecommerce couldn't spoil the evening ;)

Matt and I had a fantastic meal at Mym's place with Mym and Mym's friend James beforehand, some lovely Italian meats and fantastic Jerusalem Artichoke soup especially. And a lot of chianti. Seriously!

Rather a misty walk over about 6 miles round Hurtwood, starting and ending near Peaslake and heading to the top of Pitch Hill and back - with some evil leg-killing steep bits! Still, it's good for the thighs. It took us a few goes to find a pub that was a) open and b) let filthy muddy walker scum like us in. We eventually went to the White Horse in Shere and had a lovely meal and some pie. Mist seems to make for some atmospheric photos though, I think.

A walk with Matt to the top of Pitch Hill near Guildford, not many photos here because it got dark and my camera batteries ran out. We went to the Windmill pub afterwards for a pint. Amazing night sky too, first time I've seen the Milky Way since I was in Lincolnshire one summer about ten years ago!

Matt and I walked to Fairlight Church and back past Fairlight Glen somewhere along the south coast (while visiting his folks for the weekend in Hastings). I'd bought some new walking boots and a jacket earlier, in Hastings, so it was a chance to try them out. OK so I look a bit nerdy, but at least I was warm!

We decided to have an autumn stroll from the flat to the Orange Tree pub in Totteridge, although it did rain somewhat! A well-earned pint or two was had in the pub afterwards, it's a good job they let soggy people in though.

Went for a walk round London with Mum, visited the Diana Memorial which is distincly underwhelming. I'd no idea she was into drainage ditches. Lovely warm weather though, tired feet at the end of the day! Fish and chips were had at the Two Brothers in the evening.

This collection will be added to as work progresses on (finally) ripping out the old grey bathroom in the flat which was installed in the 80s, and putting in a nice new one.

An 11 hour drinking spectacular to celebrate Norm's last 20-something birthday. Starting off at Azzurro opposite Anchorage House for what was supposed to be a quick lunchtime drink before heading off shopping, we ended up staying there for the whole afternoon before heading off to Finchley, with the whole thing culminating in a Raj and a rather battered knee.

Took parents and sisters to see Raymond Gubbay's Classical Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall, which was fantastic. Meal afterwards at Kettners. Very rainy day :)

Matt and I had a wander round London to look at various Dr Who locations like Shad Thames. And we went for a look at the Blaine fool too, who was spending a few weeks in a glass box.

Fotopic celebrates its millionth photo uploaded with a party for staff and users at Baby Jupiter in Leeds. Awards were also handed out.

We went to BBC Television Centre as it was open for London Open House 2003.
